A wonderful way to begin each New Year is by getting complete with the things in the past.

You can write down troubling habits, personality qualities that you do not espouse, problems, and concerns on a sheet of paper and burn them in a bowl or fireplace. Watching them dissolve into flames is a way of reclaiming your power over your inner world.

After doing so, we must then fill the void by beginning to create newly so that we move into 2023 with greater clarity, grounding, and peace.

I often think that what we’ve been taught about visioning is somehow wrong, or at the very least incomplete.

Visioning, in how we’ve been taught to conceive of it, means thinking about what things you want to do, create, and accomplish in the new year.

I’m all about contribution, so I do love that, but what I know is if that’s the only way you think about your year, it will leave you hollow, empty, and unfulfilled.

See, you can create the grandest vision of what you want to accomplish.

You can travel the world.
Land the new perfect job.
Find the love of your life.
Drop 15 pounds.
Buy the new, hot car

… and still be left unfulfilled.
Disconnected.
Empty.

So perhaps there’s another way…

In Christian text, the book of Romans 12:2 tells us:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

When you are committed to your spiritual growth, to living your highest essence, to being a loving person… you cannot be conformed to this world but you must commit to renewing your mind.

What does it mean to renew your mind?

Well for the new year, let’s imagine that instead of another year trying to lose weight and make more money – we focus on who and how we are going to BE instead of what we are going to do.

You see being is the foundation of doing.

You will only act according to what you value and what you believe.

So instead of:

I’m going to travel the world; I’ll BE interested the people and places right where I am.

I’m going to make more money; I’ll BE grateful for all that I have each moment of every day.

I’m going to spend more time with family; I will BE more present to everyone everywhere.

Your DOING results from you BEING
And your BEING results from what you value.

So while I was writing this post, I had a glitch with my computer where I lost hundreds of files. Just PPT and videos… 10 years’ worth of them. Gone.

I had to decide in that moment who I was going to be.
I did everything I could to retrieve them.
Hours on line with tech support.
Called my tech team.
Nothing.
They are gone.

As I absorbed the reality of this, I started to feel free.

Perhaps the past teachings no longer fit me.

The past is over. I am free to let the new creation begin.

How apt for the beginning of this year.

Charles Fillmore, the co-founder of the Unity movement, once wrote,

“You are the creator of your own world, and the beauty and glory of it all is that the creative power is within you.”

The past is gone.

It is no longer representative of who you are.

You are fee to create newly.

So now it’s your turn.

WHO YOU WILL BE IN 2023!

What way of being do you want to bring to your…

  • Career
